Its diverse operations are organized into several core divisions: Domestic Convenience Store Business, Seijo Ishii Business (supermarkets), Entertainment-Related Business, Financial Services Business, and Overseas Business. Within its convenience stores, Lawson provides a wide selection of goods, ranging from ready-to-eat meals such as bento boxes, rice balls, fried foods, and salads, to coffee and various sweets. They also stock essential non-food items, including over-the-counter and prescription medications, cosmetics, and everyday household necessities. Beyond traditional retail, these locations offer event ticketing services and access to music CDs, DVDs, and books, available both in-store and through digital channels. Lawson's business scope further encompasses the operation of supermarket chains like Seijo Ishii, the management of HMV entertainment stores, and the running of United Cinemas movie theaters. Additionally, the company operates MACHI cafés, provides ATM services within its stores, and engages in broader banking-related activities. The company maintains a significant operational footprint, with 14,640 convenience stores in Japan across its primary brands, 154 Seijo Ishii supermarkets, 389 United Cinema screens, 57 HMV stores, 24 nursing care consultation centers, 335 Lawson hospitals, and 13,458 LAWSON ATMs. Founded in 1975, the company was initially known as Daiei Convenience Systems, Co. Ltd., before officially adopting the name Lawson, Inc. in June 1996. It operates today as a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation.
